The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Monday gave two days to
Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner Shyambir Singh to consider filing an
affidavit of apology in a criminal contempt case.
A division bench of Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Sanjeev
Kumar listed the matter for hearing on August 14.
This was the case
2018 batch IAS officer
Shyambir Singh has been serving as DC Ganderbal since 2022. He had initiated an
investigation into the assets of Ganderbal Sub-Judge Fayaz Ahmed Qureshi. In a
case, Sub-Judge Fayaz Ahmed Qureshi had ordered to stop the salary of DC in
October 2020.
It is alleged that Singh had
investigated the judge's property as an act of vengeance and misused his
official position to intimidate and harass him.
According to the sub-judge,
the deputy commissioner had also made unauthorized visits to his property to
harass him. This was considered an attempt to undermine the power of the
judiciary and retaliate against the court's decision.
